What if I don't have enough clothes for the size I want?

There are a couple of things we can do here.  I can add an extra border, or make the border wider.  I can add some filler blocks of coordinating fabric or fabric strips between blocks.

I'll need to look through what you have to see how much extra fabric we'll need.  If I can use material I already have then I will do this at no extra charge, but if I need to purchase more material, I will let you know what the cost will be and you can decide if you want to go ahead.

I reinforce all delicate fabrics during the patchwork process so if you have well worn items, they will be fine.

With clothes that are damaged, it will depend on how badly and where the damage is.  I don't use every last scrap of each garment, so there should still be enough usable fabric.  I might just need a couple of extra items to make up for damaged areas.

With clothes that are stained I will do my best to avoid the stained area when cutting the pieces.  If I think I can't use a garment for any reason, I will let you know.

What if my clothes are fragile or damaged?

Absolutely!  Let me know what you'd like.  I will work out how much fabric I need and how many items of clothing you'll need to send me and we can agree a price.

Can I order a custom size?

I use as much as I possibly can in your quilt.  The bits I can't use are generally the collars and cuffs and tiny sleeves on baby clothes.  Anything I can't use is recycled at our local TRAID bank.

What do you do with the bits of my fabric you don't use?

You pay to have your items delivered to me.  If for any reason I can't use them, I will pay to have them returned.  I will also pay to have your finished quilt delivered.

I recommend using MyHermes to send your fabrics, they are significantly cheaper than the Post Office for bulky items and will collect from you at home or you can take your package to one of their local collection sites.

Who pays for postage to get my items to you?

You can send me dry clean only items - but I would then recommend that you don't machine wash your quilt as it could damage the fabric.  If you really want to include a particular item, you could try machine washing it at 30 degrees before sending it to me so you can see what washing would do to it.  Please only do this if you are aware that the item might not be usable afterwards.

Absolutely.  Elephant Blankets are made to be used, and I expect them to need washing every now and again.  I recommend that quilts are washed on a gentle 30 degree cycle.

What material do you use as the backing for my quilt?

Each quilt will have a border around the front and a matching back.  I usually back quilts with 100% cotton in a coordinating colour but I can also back them in fleece.  Cotton is more traditional and will give you that traditional quilt feel, but fleece is more snuggly and softer.  If you are torn between the two, once you have purchased your quilt and sent me your clothing items, I can send you a sample of both cotton and fleece quilt blocks so you can feel the difference.  Just let me know if you would like me to do this.
